Dear Mr. Tierney,

After twelve years on the road, the road becomes your life. Driving long distances, packing and unloading cargo and chatting with dispatchers becomes apart of your daily routine. I am excited to apply for a truck driving role with Tadhg & Todd Trucking, and I would love the opportunity to share my career experiences with you. Thank you for taking the time to review my application.

I received my Category C+E driver license in 2009. Back in 2009, I obtained my Category C+E driver license. Since then, I've driven across Ireland, the U.K., and Europe, logging over 800,000 kilometers transporting goods and merchandise. Adding to that, I successfully completed the Certificate of Professional Competence, and I'm experienced with vehicle maintenance and keeping trucks road-safe at all times. As a trilingual being fluent in English, Irish, and German, I was also based in Germany for six years and drove the Frankfurt to Munich route three times a week. My language, mechanical, and communication skills have contributed heavily to my successful career, and I'm now seeking new opportunities to maximise my professional growth.

I am fully qualified and licensed to operate heavy machinery. To stay up to date with the legal safety protocols, and I make sure to attend yearly refresher courses for my forklift safety training to meet the Irish legal safety requirements. To add, I am proud of my excellent driving record, having never gotten into any accidents at any point throughout my trucking career.

Throughout my career, I am proud of the relationships I have built and the great reviews I have received from clients and customers. I have included some of their testimonials to attest to this, and I would be happy to answer any questions you have for me as it pertains to my professional career. I truly believe that I would be a great addition to the Tadhg & Todd Trucking team, and I hope to add value to the team in this potential role. I hope to hear from you soon.

Thank you for your time.

Yours sincerely,

Eoin Gallagher

Not sure where to start? No worries! We’ll explore each section and provide you with examples along the way. To begin, let’s get started with what makes a great cover letter header:

Cover letter header

Have you ever heard the phrase: don’t judge a book by its cover? While this is a fun, feel-good phrase, in the world of employment, this phrase doesn't hold much weight!  Employers will review your cover letter based on two things: the quality of your formatting and written content. That’s why at CVapp.ie, we’ve made it easy to create professionally designed templates that impress and engage employers. Once you’ve chosen a design layout that you’re happy with, simply input your contact details and you’re ready to go!Your header should contain your contact details so employers know how to get in touch with you, including your full name, address, phone number, and email address. You can also add links to any professional websites or social media channels like LinkedIn.

Cover letter greeting

When addressing your cover letter, it's crucial to be professional and personable. Start by addressing the hiring manager or recruiter by their full name and proper title if known. If the recipient's name is not available, use a generic salutation such as "Dear Hiring Manager" or "Dear Recruiting Team." It's best to avoid using generic greetings like "To Whom It May Concern," as they lack a personal touch. By addressing them directly, you show that you've taken the time to research and personalize your application to their company.

Although cover letter greetings can seem insignificant, greetings have an important role to play in establishing a connection and making a good impression on employers. We recommend addressing the recipient of your cover letter with a polite and professional greeting, such as “Dear Mr. Thomas,” or “Dear Mrs. Kelly.” Personalised greetings are always best, so if you do know the name of your employer, be sure to include it! If you’re unsure of your employers name, you can simply address your cover letter to “Dear Team Company,” or “Dear Company ABC.”

Here’s the greeting from our truck driver cover letter sample:

Dear Mr. Tierney,

Cover letter introduction

A truly effective and engaging introduction should immediately capture the attention of employers and pique their interest. Here, you can briefly mention any relevant experience or qualifications that make you a strong candidate for the truck driving role, and highlight any relevant skills, licenses, certifications or expertise you may have. It’s important that this section is tailored to what employers are looking for – so you may need to read the job description a few times, or research the company you’re applying to. Remember, introductions set the scene for your body paragraphs so you don’t need to go into too much detail.

Here’s our example of a great introduction:

Cover letter body paragraphs

This is the most important section of your cover letter – which means it’s important to highlight any skills, strengths or professional experiences that can help you fulfill the driver’s role you’re applying for! Before you begin, however, it’s essential that you have a good understanding of what employers are looking for. To do this, be sure to research the company and thoroughly review the job description. Applications that are tailored to the job role are significantly more likely to yield a successful result over applications that are generic. You can describe any driving experiences you have and any truck driving related skills. Where possible, try to include facts and figures that support these claims. Remember: the main goal of the body paragraphs is to convince employers that you’re the perfect candidate for the role!
