We're here to provide you with the guidance and support you need to craft an impressive CV: that's why we've created our special CV writing guide for high school students. Creating a CV can be a super intimidating task–especially if you're just starting out! However, with the right tools and guidance, you can create a compelling document that showcases your skills, experiences, and potential to employers. Let’s get started!
Writing about yourself isn't always easy, but team CVapp.ie is here to make it a little less challenging! In this section, you’ll need to introduce yourself to employers in approximately 3-5 sentences, highlighting your passions and emphasises what drives you as an employee. You can also outline any unique qualities that will help you contribute value to the job role you’re applying for. It’s important that you have a good understanding of what employers are looking for: so be sure to read over the job description and align it with your own background and experiences as much as possible!
Self-motivated, hard-working and responsible student seeking employment in the tourism and hospitality industry. Extensive experience optimising brand social media, managing customer relationships, handling payments, data entry and excellent customer service skills. Passionate about leveraging creative talent to improve the world and making the most of each new learning experience. Focused on improving and learning new skills and adding value to companies and customers.
Your employment history section focuses on past work experiences and allows potential employers to understand your professional background, skills, expertise and accomplishments. As a high school student, it's understandable that you may not have a ton of career experience: don’t worry! Just because you don’t have years of work experience behind you, doesn’t mean that you have to skip this section or leave it blank. You can include extracurricular activities, such as participation in volunteering, community service or projects, clubs or organisations outside of academics. Ideally, you want to highlight positions you served in that showcase your leadership, teamwork, management or communication skills.

Including relevant skills on your CV can make a positive impression and impact on potential employers. It allows you to showcase your abilities and potential, especially if you don't have extensive work experience. Do you excel in Maths, Science or Irish? Have you exhibited excellent leadership skills or received any outstanding awards? Are you a wiz on the computer, or do you know your way around Adobe Suite? Let potential employers know! By sharing these skills, you can present yourself as a well-rounded, capable candidate and showcase the unique strengths you bring to the table, even if you have limited work experience.
As a high school student, your academic credentials and qualifications will be limited, but that doesn’t mean your education section has to be empty! You can include details about your Junior Certificate results on your CV, as well as any relevant academic achievements or awards. Additionally, you may include any relevant extracurricular activities, such as participation in clubs, societies, or volunteering experiences, as well as any leadership roles, projects, or academic honours you have received during your time in high school.
