Professional Profile: Express yourself! 

The professional profile is your chance to showcase why you're the perfect fit for the job role you're applying for. As an intern, this is your chance to express yourself and your professional value, conveying what specific skills and qualities make you a qualified, exceptional candidate. While the professional profile section is only 3-5 sentences, it enables potential employers to understand your expertise and the value you can bring to the organisation. Employment History: Standout and shine

The employment history section is a track record of your previous employment experiences listed in reverse chronological order, starting from the most recent to least recent. When completing this section, it's important to prioritise more relevant and more recent job positions. Older positions that may not hold as much relevance and should be excluded unless they still hold value in showcasing your skills or expertise.  

Make sure to include important details such as the name of the employer or client for each position, along with the dates you were employed and the cities you were based in during your time of employment. Additionally, you should emphasise the accomplishments and responsibilities associated with each job position. Providing specific examples of your achievements, projects you completed, or skills you developed during each role can elevate the impact of your employment history section.

Education: Engage employers with your academic achievements 

When applying for an internship, your CV is your superpower! It’s important to highlight your academic experience to make a strong impression on potential employers. A great way to do this is by showcasing your academic qualifications–you can begin by including your educational background, such as your degree program, university name, and expected graduation date. If you don’t have any higher education qualifications, that’s OK: focus on providing details for your highest level of education, e.g. Leaving Certificate, and details about the institution. 

You can also list any academic awards, scholarships, or honors you have received to provide further credibility to your academic background. Additionally, you can also consider including any relevant extracurricular activities, such as student organisations, clubs, or volunteer work related to your industry.

CV Skills: Show off your unique abilities

The skills section of your CV provides employers with a clear understanding of your abilities and how they align with the requirements of the industry (or position) you're applying for. A good skills section requires a good understanding of what employers are looking for, so it's also important to read the job description thoroughly to get a good idea of which skills to include in your skills section. 

When highlighting these skills on your CV, focus on providing concrete examples or achievements that showcase your proficiency. For example, if you're applying for an internship role at a media company, you could focus on technical skills such as proficiency with media software and communication skills. If you’re fluent in more than one language, you could also include details of your language competencies in this section, too! Overall, the most important thing to remember is that the skills section should be tailored to each internship or job application you're applying for, emphasising the skills most relevant to the position. A well-crafted skills section that aligns with employer expectations can greatly improve your chances of securing an internship or job opportunity in your desired industry.
